     The Dominion of India (1947-50)


India became an independent dominion in the British Commonwealth of Nations from 15 August 1947 making her The Dominion of India till 26 January 1950. It was officially called as The Union of India created by the Indian Independent Act , 1947. After a decades of  struggles , protests and movements , the Indian got their freedom but with a painful partition dividing British India into halves based on the religious basis. 

King George VI

During the British Commonwealth , India came under King George VI as the Last Emperor of The Union of India till the Republic of India, 1950.

Louis Mountbatten

C. Rajagopalchari

The Indian got its Last British Governor-General Louis Mountbatten serving till 1948 followed by India's first native and last Governor-General C. Rajagopalachari ending his tenure with the establishment of Republic of India in 26 January 1950.

Nehru became the first Prime Minister followed by Sardar Patel as the Depuy Prime Minister . 

The era of India's Commanwealth in British Nation came to an end after the Constitution of India came into existence in 26 January 1950.
